Year In Review: Top 10 Things I Ate In 2015

What an absolutely amazing gastronomical year! This list was extremely difficult to whittle down. I’m proud to present the absolute best of the best that I was fortunate enough to get my grubby hands on this past year!

Honorable Mentions

Beef Pasty @ Lisa’s Pasty Pantry (Missoula, MT, USA)
Website / Map / US$6.50
A simple miner’s lunch packs so much flavor in such a small package. Pro-Tip: Be very liberal with the gravy!

Chipotle Bourbon Butter Chargrilled Oyster @ Angelo’s (Denver, CO, USA)
Website / Map / $14/half dozen
Giving these a go will change your mind about oysters!

Medium Red Snapper @ Zephyr (Mirissa, Sri Lanka)
Website / Map / Market Price, Approx. LKR 1500 (US$10.48)
I sure wish I could eat the catch of the day more often. This was absolutely fantastic!

10. Chilli Dusted Sesame Prawn Toast @ Fat Crab (Colombo, Sri Lanka)

Website / Map / LKR 750 (~US$5.25)
Such a simple concept. Why was this the first time I’ve ever had this?

9. Lobster Mac & Cheese @ Beauty & Essex (New York City, New York, USA)

Website / Map / US$18
Resistance is futile when it comes to this magnificent noodle & cheese medley. I only wanted a single bite, but I ended up going to war with my girlfriend over it all.

8. Black Pork Curry @ Gallery Café (Colombo, Sri Lanka)

Website / Map / LKR 1,395 (~US$9.74)
If your breath isn’t taken away by the gorgeous setting of this restaurant, then this amazing curry will.

7. Feijoada @ Santa Clara (São Paulo, Brazil)

Map / R$38/kg (~US$9.54/kg)
A rainy Saturday in São Paulo, a chance encounter and the fiending desire for Feijoada led me to this.

6. Black Sesame & Pandan Ice Cream @ Chinatown Ice Cream Factory (New York City, New York, USA)

Website / Map / US$4.50/scoop
It had nothing to do with the fact that these flavors seem somewhat fitting for the location. In reality, it was just damn good ice cream.

5. Delibelly Taco @ Tacodeli (Austin, TX, USA)

Website / Map / US$4.50/taco
My love for tacos is well known, and it wouldn’t it be right if there wasn’t an entry. Delibelly is a Wednesday & Saturday special at Austin’s beloved taco shop and they had me at pork belly.

4. Salted Egg Fried Sotong @ Restoran W.A.W (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)

Map / RM24 (Medium) (~US$5.60)
I’ve had squid prepared in many ways throughout my lifetime but this has to be the best iteration of it.

3. Pastrami Sandwich @ Katz Delicatessen (New York City, NY, USA)

Website / Map / US$28
All meat, no filler.

2. Chapa Mista Do Patriarca: Chapinha @ Cervejaria Patriarca (São Paulo, Brazil)

Website / Map / RS140 (~US$35.14)
A whopping plate of sizzling meats and vegetables? Yes, please. PRO-TIP: lay off the pre-dinner bread if you want to enjoy this one.

1. Beef Brisket @ La Barbecue (Austin, TX, USA)

Website / Map / US$20/lb
Everything is bigger in Texas and this brisket is no exception. For those curious, I rank their brisket a smidge below their arch-rivals, Franklin’s Barbecue, with both setting the bar ridiculously sky high.
